How to deal with bad hair color
We have all had it happen to us either the stylist messed up her formula or we bought the wrong box at the store, and when bad hair color happens it is awful. But what are we suppose to do about it?
• Do NOT try to color your hair again! Applying another color on top of the bad color will not fix it. If it went to dark and you put a lighter color on it you will end up like a cheetah, spotty and multiple colors taking the bad hair color to worse. If you went to light give it some time and then go to a stylist to have it covered, what you buy in the store may not be the right base color to give you the desired shade.
• Do NOT bleach it out! Going too dark is awful but bleaching the life out of it is not the solution. When you apply bleach to hair that has been colored dark you never know exactly what the outcome will be.
• Do not use a color remover. Store bought color removers are not as predictable as what the professionals use. Your end result will still be the wrong color and even more damaged to where it cannot even be repaired by a stylist.
• Try using hot water when you shampoo. Using hot water when you shampoo will open up the outer layer of the hair shaft to help release the pigment in the hair.
• Add some baking soda to your shampoo to strip some of the color out. In you hand sprinkle some baking soda into your shampoo work into hair and let it sit for 3-5 minutes. Make sure you use a good conditioner after the baking soda treatment because it will dry out your hair.
• Try out new hair accessories! Using hair accessories will draw attention away from your hair color.
• Visit your stylist. If your stylist says they are unable to fix your color due to the condition of your tresses it maybe time for a new style.

Haircolor fading
Hair color inevitability fades weather you use a semi permanent or permanent hair color depending on how you care for your hair. Semi-permanent colors are designed to fade out over time because they do not penetrate the hair shaft as deeply as permanent color but they are also not as harsh on the hair. Permanent hair color should only fade mildly if it is properly cared for. Properly cared for, your hair color can outlast all the rest.
-Using color protecting shampoo is the best thing you can do to preserve your hair color. Many of the big box store products are not good for your hair color. Sulfate free shampoos are best, they do not strip the hair of its color or moisture.
-Avoid using too hot of water when you wash your hair.
-Some volume shampoos will also help to speed up the fading because they are designed to open the hair shaft. Make sure your volume shampoo is color preserving!
-Use a color enhancing shampoo. There are so many colors out there to help keep your hair color fresh, vibrant and give it some shine. Red tones fade the quickest so this is vital for red hair color!
-Protect your hair from UV rays. Wear a hat or apply sunscreen to your hair before you basque in the glorious sunlight. There are quite a few styling products that have sunscreens in them or sometimes you can just use a leave-in conditioner that contains sunscreen.
-Use a clear coat. Just like on your nails you can apply a clear coat. A demi permanent hair color coats the outer layer of the hair shaft to help protect your color even more. The clear will coat the hair for about 3-4 weeks thus delaying the fading of your hair color. Using a clear will also tame frizz and give the hair awesome shine!
Using as many of these tips as possible will preserve your hair color and help you to get your moneys worth each time you visit the salon!

Summer time hair Care
The best times of the year are spent out doors in the summer at the lake, by the pool or playing sports. Consequently most of the damage done to our hair in the year is during the summer. Unfortunately wearing a ball cap or bathing cap all the time doesn’t happen, because it is the best way to keep your hair healthy. Follow these tips to swim and play to your hearts content.
IN THE POOL FUN
Water log your hair before jumping in the pool. Try soaking your hair with warm water for a few minutes before heading outside, the more water in your hair the less the chlorinated water that will soak in.
Wash your hair immediately after leaving the pool water. If the chemicals are allowed to dry in the hair, the damage could be more severe. You should use a gentle clarifying shampoo to remove the majority of the chemicals. Be sure to use a deep conditioner after wards.
Use a leave-in conditioner. Spraying in a leave-in conditioner before you dive in will act as a body armor to fend off the harmful chemicals and UV rays.
FUN IN THE SUN
While playing outside with the kids or sitting by the lake you should always wear sun block. Sun block on your skin is a no brainer but do you protect your hair and scalp too? The suns rays will prematurely age your hair as it does your skin. Always wear a hat or use a leave-in conditioner with SPF.
The summer months are full of fun in the out doors make sure your hair and scalp are protected. These tips will help to keep your hair healthy and shiny all summer long no matter how long you spend in the sun.

To use Color Preserving Shampoo or not to use Color Preserving
I know this is a tough question for a lot of people who chemically treat their hair. Using color preserving products will not hurt your hair if you do not color your hair, however it is possible that using it when you bleach your hair is not the best thing for your hair. We need to make sure we are using the correct products for our hair type and condition.
When you have dark hair and lighten it you don't need to stop that color from fading right? But you do need to condition it more than most heads of hair. We focus on keeping the color as long as we can but sometimes we need to focus more on conditioning the hair that we have damaged with the chemicals. Bleach does do more damage than just coloring it so it needs to have more time and moisture put in to it. If you bleach and then tone your hair be sure to use the color preserving shampoo but make sure you are using a good hydrating conditioner and do deep treatments regularly.
When you go dark or red you definitely need to use at least the color preserving shampoo to keep that color from fading so quickly. Depending on your hair type the conditioner may be different. For fine hair the color preserving is good but for coarse hair I would suggest using something more moisturizing along with deep treatments.
So let's remember the signs of damaged hair and talk to your stylist or Beauty Supply sales associate about your hair and what you need to use to keep it healthy. Healthy hair is always in style!

How to Choose A Salon
How to Choose A Salon
Longing for a new haircut? Want highlights or an Updo? Just a bang trim? Is it time to treat your self to a facial?
Your appearance is important to you, so choosing the right salon can be a challenge. With so many options, from the most basic to full-service, you’re guaranteed to find a salon that suits you and your beauty needs.
Here are a few tips to help you in your search for a salon:
Ask for referrals. Do you have a coworker whose haircut you covet? A friend who is always well-coiffed? Ask them where they get their hair done. Same goes for facials and waxing. People who love their salon will happily recommend their stylist or esthetician to a friend. Make sure you get the name of the person you want to see, since most salons employ many people.
Check the Yellow Pages, and then do a little research online. The phone book will have every salon in the area listed, but you won’t be able to glean much more than a phone number. That’s where the Internet comes in.
Many salons these days have a Web site, so you can go online and get a feel for who they are and what they do.
Consider their hours and location. Is the salon close to your work or home? Do their hours suit the times you can be there? What might seem like trivial details at first can actually make a big difference in the long run. Is it worth it to travel almost an hour to get your bangs trimmed? Will it be a hassle to run out at lunch to get an eyebrow wax? With so many options out there, a salon that is close by, with hours that fit your schedule, can make all the difference when it comes to enjoying your beauty treatments.
Ask about prices. Costs will vary from salon to salon, even from hairdresser to hairdresser within the same salon. It’s important that the cost fits your budget, because no one wants to go broke, even for the perfect haircut.
Call and speak with someone at the salon. Many places have a receptionist who can answer any questions you might have. They’ll also be able to fill you in on all the services they offer. Or, stop in for a visit. Check out the space, the clientele and the products they offer. Make sure their services fit your needs.
If you are looking for a hair stylist, schedule a consultation. A good stylist will take the time to talk to you about your hair type, your face shape and your styling habits, and they will help you make a good decision about the hairstyle that will fit you and your life.
It is always helpful to bring a photo of what you’re looking for, but most salons will have books filled with photos of hairstyles. If you are unsure, ask the stylist to recommend a few styles they think might work for you. Taking the time to find a hair stylist who understands what you want will make all the difference.
Once you’ve found the perfect salon, sit back, relax, and enjoy the experience.

10 Beauty Myths BUSTED
- Split ends CAN be repaired by hair products...So very very FALSE! No matter how much goop you glop on split ends CANNOT be repaired, they must be cut off. Products only lay down the split in the hair until the next time you wash your hair.
- Brushing your hair 100 strokes a day makes your hair healthier and grow faster...Marsha this is FALSE! Yes your hair needs to be brushed but not excessive brushing. Style your hair and leave it alone, excess brushing can cause more damage by pulling on the hair stretching and breaking it.
- Alcohol in your styling products dries out your hair...um this is also FALSE! There are small traces of various alcohols in styling products which helps the products to have a longer shelf life and it keeps the products from separating. There has been alcohol in hair products since day one, it has gotten a bad rap in the recent years for drying out your hair. However this reputation came about after the population starting chemically treating their hair and using thermal tools.
- You should switch shampoo and conditioner because your hair gets use to it...sorry charlie FALSE! Your hair does not get use to your shampoo and conditioner. If your shampoo and conditioner are not performing as they did in the beginning your water may have had a change, different water levels cause different reactions. If you have recently changed what chemical services you do to your hair this might also cause a shift in the way your hair reacts to your products. Another option if you aren't already doing it you may need to do clarifying treatments every two weeks, to remove product build-up or mineral residue left behind by your water. Only switch shampoo and conditioner if you are unsatisfied with it's results.
- Trimming your hair makes your hair grow faster...Houston we have a problem this is FALSE! Your hair grows from the scalp not the ends. Trimming your hair prevents split ends from traveling up the hair shaft causing more spits and damage. It also removes dry hair so the hair doesn't break off causing you to have to take off mass amounts when it does get long. Keeping your hair healthy by trimming and conditioning will make it seem like it grows faster. Extra Calcium, protein, and folic acid will help you get Rapunzel locks.
- You hair texture doesn't change...and neither does your body... FALSE! As your body ages and changes so does your hair. Everything about your hair can change density, texture, and color all due to your body's life changes.
- Coloring your hair during pregnancy is harmful...defiantly FALSE! Are you eating the hair color or putting it on your head? The only concern there I may have would be that you cannot always use the same formulas you were using prior to the pregnancy because your body is out of whack and it may not take the same way. Usually that occurs when you are going lighter, the hair doesn't lift as quickly. Although I always suggest my clients do check with their physician just in case.
- Salon Products are identical to drug store products...really??? this is very false! The reason professional products are more expensive is because the quality of the ingredients is higher therefore they are not identical. Salon products are by far more concentrated so you use less and it takes you longer to get through your bottle. If you are debating what to buy think of this old saying you get what you pay for.
- Lemon juice can lighten your hair without causing damage...well definitely not, this is FALSE! The juice from lemons is very acidic and it will blow the outer layer of the hair shaft out causing tremendous damage and dryness. And to top it off it doesn't always lighten as much as you want! Damage and bad color kids don't try this at home!
- Dandruff is cause by dry scalp...sorry folks this is sooo not true! FALSE! Dandruff and dry scalp are completely different scalp conditions and need to be treated as such. Dry scalp is when your scalp is lacking its natural moisture. Dandruff is when your scalp is over run with bacteria; causing itchiness, oiliness, and a smell.
