How to Choose A Salon

How to Choose A Salon

Longing for a new haircut? Want highlights or an Updo? Just a bang trim? Is it time to treat your self to a facial?

Your appearance is important to you, so choosing the right salon can be a challenge. With so many options, from the most basic to full-service, you’re guaranteed to find a salon that suits you and your beauty needs.

Here are a few tips to help you in your search for a salon:

Ask for referrals. Do you have a coworker whose haircut you covet? A friend who is always well-coiffed? Ask them where they get their hair done. Same goes for facials and waxing. People who love their salon will happily recommend their stylist or esthetician to a friend. Make sure you get the name of the person you want to see, since most salons employ many people.

Check the Yellow Pages, and then do a little research online. The phone book will have every salon in the area listed, but you won’t be able to glean much more than a phone number. That’s where the Internet comes in.

Many salons these days have a Web site, so you can go online and get a feel for who they are and what they do.

Consider their hours and location. Is the salon close to your work or home? Do their hours suit the times you can be there? What might seem like trivial details at first can actually make a big difference in the long run. Is it worth it to travel almost an hour to get your bangs trimmed? Will it be a hassle to run out at lunch to get an eyebrow wax? With so many options out there, a salon that is close by, with hours that fit your schedule, can make all the difference when it comes to enjoying your beauty treatments.

Ask about prices. Costs will vary from salon to salon, even from hairdresser to hairdresser within the same salon. It’s important that the cost fits your budget, because no one wants to go broke, even for the perfect haircut.

Call and speak with someone at the salon. Many places have a receptionist who can answer any questions you might have. They’ll also be able to fill you in on all the services they offer. Or, stop in for a visit. Check out the space, the clientele and the products they offer. Make sure their services fit your needs.

If you are looking for a hair stylist, schedule a consultation. A good stylist will take the time to talk to you about your hair type, your face shape and your styling habits, and they will help you make a good decision about the hairstyle that will fit you and your life.

It is always helpful to bring a photo of what you’re looking for, but most salons will have books filled with photos of hairstyles. If you are unsure, ask the stylist to recommend a few styles they think might work for you. Taking the time to find a hair stylist who understands what you want will make all the difference.

Once you’ve found the perfect salon, sit back, relax, and enjoy the experience.

DRAMTIC LASHES FROM TWEEZERMAN'S MAKE UP ARTIST

    Step 1 : Curl
Remove any mascara prior to curling lashes. For naturally beautiful upswept lashes, insert and center lashes in your Classic Lash Curler. Holding handles firmly, gently squeeze. Hold for a few seconds, open curler to release lashes. Repeat for a more intense curl.
To reach corner lashes, or for a super-strong heat reinforced curl, use the Super Curl Eyelash Curler. Gently heat the pad of this curler with a blow dryer and follow previous Classic Lash Curler steps. The Super Curl Eyelash Curler is uniquely designed to use with gentle heat, never try this with a metal eyelash curler.
    Step 2 : Define
While protecting upper and lower eyelids with the Mascara Protector™, prime lashes with mascara and comb through with eyelash comb to remove clumps.
    Step 3 : Dramatize
Dab Fast Lash® on still-wet outer tips to give lashes extreme length. Immediately follow with final coat of mascara.

    Eyelash Tips
    • Curl lashes first before applying mascara. Make sure to never curl lashes after mascara is freshly applied. This can cause lashes to clump and stick to curler.
    • Never heat a metal lash curler. It can get too hot and singe lashes or burn the eye lid.
    • It is only necessary to curl top lashes, not bottom lashes.
    • Make sure not to tug on lashes while curling.
    • For optimum performance, hygiene and to prevent eye infections, make sure to replace pads after 3 months and the curler between 6 and 9 months.
How to Get Rid of Clumped Mascara
The secret is Tweezerman's Ilashcomb®. The perfectly spaced gold plated metal teeth glide through clumped mascara giving you beautifully separated luscious lashes in seconds.
    Want a Super Curl?
Tweezerman's Super Curl Eyelash Curler has a "no-stick" silicone pad that can be gently heated for a few seconds with a blow dryer. Use before applying mascara. Your curled lashes will look fuller and your eyes look larger.
How to Turn Your Lashes from Ordinary to Extraordinary
Tweezerman's Fast Lash® works like a magic wand to create the longest, most glamorous lashes imaginable. Simply apply regular mascara to your lashes, touch the tips with Fast Lash, and like magic, with the next stroke of your mascara your lashes grow before your eyes. Go from long, to longer, to longest without the bother of applying false lashes.
How to Keep Mascara on Your Lashes and Off Your Makeup
Next time you apply your mascara, especially to your lower lashes, try our Mascara Protector™, the tool used by make-up artists to protect newly applied make-up. Begin by placing the Protector under lower eyelashes as mascara is applied. Next reverse position and place tool over brow bone to shield eye make-up. While holding the Protector in place, brush mascara up through upper lashes. Perfect lashes, perfect make-up!

    At Home Pedicures

I know how we all love to be pampered, but in this economic climate not all of us can.  Follow these simple steps for an awesome at home pedicure.

          1. Remove nail polish then soak your feet in warm water and Pedi Soak.
          2. Use a Pedro Stone to work off the rough edges around the bottom of your feet, focusing on your heal   area.
          3. Let feet soak for a few more minutes to rinse off removed dead skin cells.
          4. Dry your feet and nails.
          5. Apply cuticle remover with a Q-Tip using a rolling movement to slightly push cuticles back.
          6. Clip nails and file them smooth.  When you are filing your nails make sure you are using smooth strokes starting at the edges and swiping the file towards the center of the nail. (For thin nails do this as step #1)
          7. Clean out products from under the free edge of your nail using your cuticle pusher.
          8. Use a cuticle pusher to gently push back cuticles and then remove the excess cream.
          9. Massage in cuticle oil.
          10. Rub those lovely feet with a massage cream.
          11. Remove excess lotion and oils from nails with a gentle polish remover.
          12. Apply a base coat, polish and finish with a top coat.

    THIN HAIR BLUES

HAVING THIN HAIR HAS GOT TO BE ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT TYPES OF HAIR TO TAKE CARE OF.  THIN HAIR TENDS TO GET OILY, LIMP AND JUST PLAIN BLAH!  DESPITE THESE TROUBLES, WITH THE PROPER CARE REGIMEN FINE HAIR CAN BE TRANSFORMED INTO A BEAUTIFUL CREATION.
VOLUME IS A VERY TROUBLESOME ASPECT OF THIN HAIR.  IMPROPERLY CARED FOR THIN HAIR HAS NO BOUNCE OR FULLNESS.  TO INCREASE VOLUME, USE VOLUMIZING SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER DAILY.  THESE PRODUCTS ARE FORMULATED TO INCREASE VOLUME OF THE HAIR BY THICKENING EACH INDIVIDUAL HAIR STRAND.  MANY VOLUMIZING PRODUCTS FOUND IN BIG BOX STORES CONTAIN WAX WHICH CAN CAUSE BREAKAGE.  PROFESSIONAL VOLUMIZING PRODUCTS HAVE BETTER QUALITY INGREDIENTS AND NO WAX WHICH IS BETTER FOR YOUR HAIR.  CHOOSING THE CORRECT VOLUMIZING STYLING PRODUCTS IS ALSO AN ISSUE FINE HAIR PEOPLE HAVE.  THERE ARE SO MANY OUT THERE, I WOULD PERSONALLY SUGGEST THAT YOU USE A GEL OR MOUSE FOR ALL OVER AND WHEN YOUR HAIR IS ALMOST DRY ADD A ROOT LIFTER.  REMEMBER WHEN YOUR ARE STYLING YOUR HAIR YOU WANT TO BRUSH IT UP OFF OF YOUR SCALP TO CREATE THE MOST VOLUME.  SOME CLIENTS LIKE TO FLIP THERE HEAD OVER WHILE BLOW DRYING.
IN ADDITION TO USING QUALITY VOLUMIZING PRODUCTS, THIS HAIR CAN ALSO BE PERMED.  A BODY PERM WILL ADD A LITTLE MORE MANAGEABILITY, HELPING TO ACHIEVE A FULLER LOOK.  HOWEVER IF YOU COLOR OR HIGHLIGHT YOUR HAIR YOUR STYLIST MIGHT ADVISE YOU AGAINST PERMS.
FINE HAIR GETS OILY EASIER BECAUSE THERE IS LESS HAIR TO ABSORB THE OILS YOU NATURALLY EXCRETE.  THE BUILD UP OF OILS TENDS TO ATTRACT DIRT AND DUST FROM THE AIR AND HOLDS ON TO IT MAKING THE HAIR SEEM DIRTY.  WASHING THIN HAIR DAILY IS A GOOD PLAN!
WITH THE CORRECT DAILY CARE THIN HAIR CAN BE FULL AND FANTASTIC AND NO LONGER BE CHARACTERIZED AS GREASY AND LIMP!

    PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS:
SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER- PUREOLOGY VOLUME, REDKEN BODY FULL, BIG SEXY HAIR
STYLING PRODUCTS-PUREOLOGY VOLUME BLOW DRY AMPLIFIER, REDKEN BODY FULL AMPLIFIER, BIG SEXY HAIR BLOW DRY GEL AND ROOT PUMP PLUS
