Haircolor fading

Hair color inevitability fades weather you use a semi permanent or permanent hair color depending on how you care for your hair.  Semi-permanent colors are designed to fade out over time because they do not penetrate the hair shaft as deeply as permanent color but they are also not as harsh on the hair.  Permanent hair color should only fade mildly if it is properly cared for.  Properly cared for, your hair color can outlast all the rest.

-Using color protecting shampoo is the best thing you can do to preserve your hair color.  Many of the big box store products are not good for your hair color.  Sulfate free shampoos are best, they do not strip the hair of its color or moisture.
-Avoid using too hot of water when you wash your hair.
-Some volume shampoos will also help to speed up the fading because they are designed to open the hair shaft.  Make sure your volume shampoo is color preserving!
-Use a color enhancing shampoo.  There are so many colors out there to help keep your hair color fresh, vibrant and give it some shine.  Red tones fade the quickest so this is vital for red hair color!
-Protect your hair from UV rays.  Wear a hat or apply sunscreen to your hair before you basque in the glorious sunlight.  There are quite a few styling products that have sunscreens in them or sometimes you can just use a leave-in conditioner that contains sunscreen.
-Use a clear coat.  Just like on your nails you can apply a clear coat.  A demi permanent hair color coats the outer layer of the hair shaft to help protect your color even more.  The clear will coat the hair for about 3-4 weeks thus delaying the fading of your hair color.  Using a clear will also tame frizz and give the hair awesome shine!

Using as many of these tips as possible will preserve your hair color and help you to get your moneys worth each time you visit the salon!
